When God Calls Your Name

The telling of a personal testimony is a glimpse of God in action. They are vignettes God gives us of a life that has been touched by Him and through the Holy Spirit has overcome the powers of darkness. With the world surrounding us on every side the lustful attractions toward being carnal or giving in to the things of the flesh can be overwhelming. A Godly testimony brings us hope. But if we look at a testimony with an "I am glad God works for you attitude" then we are defeated before we start. I often wonder why so many think that God cannot touch their lives as He does in so many others. Why is it that so many think they are just not good enough for God to reach out and love? When Jesus called the Apostles do we think He did it because they were perfect people? No, not at all. If you study their lives you will find He had a tremendous amount of work to do in them. They failed often, questioned often, were faithless often, did not understand the things He

Why Marriage?

According to a study from the National Center for Family & Marriage Research at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, 60% of couples live together before they get married. In my interaction with these couples I find that many do it while trying to finish up college in order to help with expenses, others as a "Trial Marriage", still others for companionship.. as a way to combat loneliness. Many of these go on to get married which is a good thing but as in all things of the flesh, there are also those who do it for reasons other than love. Some of those reasons are are to just get out of the home and others are simply the lust filled dreams of youth wrapped up in false hurtful promises. The trend in society has heavily shifted toward this being an acceptable behavior. No longer is there a taboo associated with it in the eyes of the world. That said, it underscores a point that all of us know and which is times change and so do societies. But is there anythi

When "Killing" Kills and Mothers Die

The news of the death of Jennifer Morbelli and her late term aborted child is one piece of news that breaks my heart.* With all the PR that surrounds Prenatal Gene testing the media would have us to believe it is the best thing since sliced bread, but, sadly it is not. I was reading an article on it at NYTimes.com and was shocked to see that the gist of the article placed the testing and possible “False Positives” for abnormality far above the doubting and emotional concern that results from trusting the imperfect test results; possibly forcing the killing of a child: The new technique still requires fetal cells to be obtained either by amniocentesis, i n which a long needle is stuck into the womb, or by another invasive procedure called chorionic villus sampling, in which tissue is taken from the placenta. But instead of then examining the fetal chromosomes under a microscope, a DNA-sensing chip is used to detect abnormalities too small to be seen. A big conc

Using the Wisdom that Comes From Above

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. --James 3:13-18 NKJV One of the conundrums of a “New Believer” is the “New” spiritual fight they find within their minds. The Apostle Paul refers to it as the “Flesh lusting against the Spirit” in Gal. 5:17. And for many of those delivered from the darkness of the old sinful habits and into the “…the kingdom of the Son of His love,” Col. 1:13, the w

Sins of the Parents, Sins of the Society

10  "Who among you fears the LORD ? Who obeys the voice of His Servant? Who walks in darkness And has no light? Let him trust in the name of the LORD And rely upon his God. 11  Look, all you who kindle a fire, Who encircle yourselves with sparks: Walk in the light of your fire and in the sparks you have kindled-- This you shall have from My hand: You shall lie down in torment. Isaiah 50:10-11 (NKJV) Just this past week I was very surprised to see the headline on the Christian Post, “ Kids Need Both Mom and Dad, Says Gay Man Opposed to Gay Marriage. ” * To be honest it is the first time I have ever read of a Gay man who admitted that children need both female and male role models. In a pop-culture where decisions concerning morality have been largely left up to the children this was a refreshing story. Sure, it is a one-off event but could it lead to more Gays and Lesbians realizing the truth? Let’s hope so. But even though we may agree with the admittedly Gay man
