Truth Inspires

The refugee crisis in our world today, has sparked a lot of talk concerning the Christian's responsibility toward foreigners. Because it seems to be a touchy subject for some, I would like to come at it from a non-biased point of view. Pointedly, I want to highlight a few important passages that I believe offer an honest understanding of the topic. People, in general, do not ever like to be wrong. Some will go as far as only providing one side of a story to prove their point, even if they know the other side to be true as well. This can be seen in politics and main stream journalism all the time. The truth is censured based upon what side you want to support. Although this is unbalanced, and unfair, it seems to be easier than trying to sort through both sides and come up with a rationale that satisfies all. Recently a University Professor, Mark Armitage, lost his job because he discovered what amounts to proof that Dinosaurs existed s early as a few thousand years ago, not sixty-five million years ago. His discovery brought national attention but now it seems he is paying the price. Charisma reported that he is now following that up with a religious discrimination lawsuit. It does not surprise me that this type of discovery would incur the ire of the secular scientific community. Anything that backs up the Scripture as a true account of historical — even scientific — events is sure to be shot down by those who cannot accept biblical facts. It has long been known that history repeats itself. The oft quoted quip of Santayana has been stated in many ways since, but it still stands that "Those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to repeat it." The things of the past are our tutors. We lean and trust on those with silver crowns because it's by their wisdom and experience that we learn the lessons of life and good decision making. We also learn from histories how nations have stood and how nations have fallen by searching out their strengths and weaknesses—what their leaders stood for and what they stood against. The hymn, Joy to the world, the Lord has come , is a seasonal favorite in churches and homes during the Christmas season. It was written by Isaac Watts' and published as a hymn in his famous hymnal, Psalms of David Imitated in the Language of the New Testament. 1 In my estimation it is meant to declare the “Joy" one is to experience when they consider the Biblical nativity (1st Advent) and eternal rule (2nd Advent), where the Lord twice steps out of eternity and into the bounds of time. What I would like for us to consider is the question, "Can real joy be found every day of our lives?" Certainly from the world’s point of view this is impossible when we consider how worldly joy is attained. I have a message that God has laid firmly upon my heart. After reading it you may think I am a harsh, unkind, unloving, and intolerant. So be it. I can only say what is on my heart. I have tried for years to simply tell the good news of the gospel, diligently working to spread the love of Christ. But the time has come that I can no longer be silent. I must speak my heart. God’s judgment is nearing and I have no recourse except to bring the message He has laid upon my heart. Every day I hear more and more stories of how Pastors and denominations are moving closer and closer to the dark side; how national leaders are embracing unholy lifestyles and sickening hurtful sin, all in the name of tolerance. It is not my desire to name names but the issue stems from the fundamental lie that we all (at one time or another) have adhered too. I just wanted to jot down a simple thought for the day. Psalm 119:11 states, "Thy word I have hid in my heart that I might not sin against you." When I was a child one of the most dearest things my mother held to her heart was a very large family version of the Bible. Although I never remember her reading it, I am sure she did, the sacredness was more along the lines of it being a special book.  I have always remembered her endearment to it and how that was passed down to me in some special way. For this day, it would be good for all of us to take a few moments and consider the worth of the word, God's word in our own life. Do we cherish it? Is it really meaningful to us? What place does it hold in our heart?  Jesus stated that God's word would never pass away and come judgement day, it is by His word alone we either stand or we fall.
