Putting Off the Inevitible - The God Choice

Everyday we are faced with a plethora of choices. What will I wear? Where will I eat? What will I do today? Should I cut grass or clean the garage? The list is endless. So many choices--So little time. Decision making can be stressful; it's one reason we put so many decisions off for another day. The high priority choices, those that have a direct affect on us, our family, our job, or our lifestyle we seek to make asap. But others not so quickly. If you're like me, you can put off a decision till the day of decision has passed and now I must face the penalty. That just happened with my driver's license renewal--three weeks late!! Ugh!! But fortunately the most important decision I have ever had to make was done over 30 years ago when I made the decision to commit my life into the hands of God. Jesus is my Savior and Lord, the ever present guide for my life. It's what I call the "God Choice." Why do so many put the "God Choice" off so long? In ...

Rejecting the Holy Spirit's Witness

I have taught concerning the "Unpardonable Sin" Jesus spoke of on numerous occasions. Sadly, many Christians today still live in fear that they have committed it. This type of understanding gives them impetus to walk away from the church and service to God. Below I have written to demonstrate what this sin really is and to give an understanding that only those who reject Jesus' claims of Messiahship and the witness of the Holy Spirit, the One who illuminates the sin within us, can commit this end-all-beat-all of sins. To give a better understanding I would like to use the coming Tribulation period as a foundation. The Coming Day of Tribulation The Bible predicts a coming day of tribulation that Jesus describes as the most horrible time on earth. So horrible is this period of time, that unless He returns to end it all flesh will destroy themselves (Mt. 24:22). But thankfully, for those left living, He does come back to end the destruction. Concerning this time, ...

Starting Over? Or Just Finishing?

With the signs of the times pointing toward the end of the age as the prophesied in the eschatological scenarios of the prophets and the Lord Himself, you would think the church age as we know it was finishing its course. But the de-evangelising of society tells a different story. In the first few centuries of the church persecution was common as it spread outward from Jerusalem. But it eventually the persecution subsided thanks in part to the "Edict of Milan 313 A.D." This edict supplied a ruling that Christians were to be released from imprisonment, goods were to be returned, and persecution was to cease. Soon Christianity became widespread. Today Christianity in the Western nations has had its day it seems; or at least that is how it looks. Instead of spreading out in the west it is thinning out. According to Ed Stetzer, 3500-4000 churches are closing their doors annually.** Facts are facts. When I go out into my neighborhood to share Christ I am amazed how many house...

God Still Blesses Marriage

Men! When will we quit making our the women and children suffer?  ***** Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones. Proverbs 3:5-8 (NKJV) One of the biggest reasons men say they will not get married is because they do not want to end up in divorce. Commitment for life scares the pants off of them! So they allow there fears to rule their actions. In effect they are stating I am not strong enough to be able to handle marriage. Wow!! This flies in the face of every macho "I can do anything male ego" that I have ever met. They can push their weight around, do crazy stunts, and even pretend to be the courageous "Knight in Shining Armor" out to protect their girl from all would be evil doers. But ask them to marry that girl...

Young Adults and Todays Church

A lot can be said about why today's young people are leaving the church, why nearly 1 in 5 adults have no religious affiliation,* and why our churches are full of lifeless adults who like to attend services but rarely get involved in unplanned spontaneous Holy Spirit induced service. I have read the opinions, the books, and listened to the excuses over and over. But as I have told our church and my family time and time again, unless one has a living, vital, and always ready and obedient  relationship with Christ there will be no or very little Real Christian Life seen. God did not call us to be wall-flowers in the church building. He called us to love one another and to serve all who will allow it in the name of Christ. We are called to take the message of reconciliation to the world. We are called to fulfill the calling for which we were saved. We often think it was just heaven but that is only a byproduct, He called us to be enlisted in His army and to be His ambassadors of ...

The Biblical Principle of Darkness

Give glory to the LORD your God Before He causes darkness, And before your feet stumble On the dark mountains, And while you are looking for light, He turns it into the shadow of death And makes it dense darkness.  (Jeremiah 13:16) In God's economy, an economy which all are subject to whether they accept it or not, there comes a time when widespread rebellion will result in a thick darkness representing the judgment of God. This happened to the land of Judah as they fell captive to the Babylonian armies in the 6th Century B.C. God had commissioned Jeremiah to announce that while it was still twilight they needed to seek God in repentance . The phrase, "Give glory to God" is an idiom for confessing ones sin (See Josh. 7:19 and John 9:24). The land of Judah was given a time to turn to God. The brightness was fading and the twilight had fallen. Soon darkness would cover the land and the time of turning would be past. Jesus Himself validated this principle when He stat...

The First Noel and Reconciliation

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger." And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, "Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us." And they came with haste an...

Christmas 365

It's no secret that during the Christmas season more people are inspired to help the less-fortunate. I use the term less-fortunate to include those in that position, be it no fault of their own, or those whose bad decisions are manifest by current circumstances. It is often said, to never give money to a homeless person because they will use it on drugs or alcohol. Maybe they will--maybe they wont. Does the Bible ever tell us to not help those in need? No, never. Why is this so? Because giving may help the one in need but ultimately it is for our spiritual benefit. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. (1 Corinthians 13:3) Why would Paul mention the phrase, "profits me nothing?" Because giving is a spiritual exercise. We give because the sanctification of the Spirit, who is transforming our lives day-to-day to be conformed to Christ's image. It's all a par...

Revelation 2 - First Love

In the Apostle's Revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ we introduced to seven churches each held in the right hand of the Lord Jesus; all but one receiving a letter of both praise and critique. These letters are unique in that they represent actual church bodies that at one time existed (See above photo of Ephesus Church) yet are preserved as testaments of what the Lord desires His church to represent. Each of the churches, saving Laodicea, have qualities that are fitting for churches throughout all ages to emulate. But they also have qualities that are carnal and if left unattended, will cause personal loss and harm to the cause of the Lord. As a called out believer I am compelled to take the firm stand that when God shows us a thing, an area, or an attitude in our life that needs work we really need to take heed. Even though His mercy and compassion, all acts of Grace, are new each morning, Lam. 3:22-23, continual quenching of the Spirit of God will only lead to His hand of p...
